Langkawi, July 2026 — As part of its ongoing commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), XSD International Paper Sdn. Bhd. participated in the Environmental Stewardship & Regulatory Excellence 2026 Seminar, held in Langkawi from 21 to 23 July 2026.
Representing XSD, three committee members joined industry professionals, government agencies, and environmental practitioners to exchange insights on sustainable environmental management, regulatory compliance, and conservation practices. The seminar also provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration in protecting Malaysia's natural environment.
Restoring Marine Ecosystems Through Coral Planting
The highlight of the programme took place on the final day, when XSD representatives participated in a coral planting activity at Pulau Singa Besar, co-organised by Jabatan Perikanan Langkawi.
Together with 80 participants from various organisations and industries, nearly 1,000 Acropora coral fragments were planted to support the restoration of Malaysia's coral reef ecosystems. The coral fragments were carefully secured onto specially designed coral frames before being transferred by certified divers to approximately five metres below sea level, where they will continue to grow naturally.
Coral reefs play a vital role in sustaining marine biodiversity, providing habitats for countless marine species while protecting coastlines and supporting local fisheries and eco-tourism. Every coral planted today contributes to a healthier marine ecosystem for future generations.
Learning Through Action
Beyond contributing to reef restoration, the programme offered participants valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of marine conservation. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies, private industries, and local communities in safeguarding Malaysia's natural resources.
Through activities such as coral planting, environmental sustainability becomes more than a concept, it becomes a shared responsibility that begins with collective action.
Advancing ESG Through Meaningful Action
This initiative reflects XSD's continued commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles, while supporting the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
🔸 SDG 13: Climate Action
🔸 SDG 14: Life Below Water
🔸 SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Protecting Today for Tomorrow
Protecting the environment requires long-term commitment and collective effort. Through meaningful environmental initiatives such as coral restoration, XSD continues to play its part in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.
Every coral planted today is an investment in healthier oceans, stronger ecosystems, and a more sustainable future for generations to come.
