XSD’S COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND ENVIRONMENT SHINES AT SURAU KAMPUNG PADANG MEIHA EVENT

Kulim, 30th December – XSD hosted a meaningful and impactful event at Surau Kampung Padang Meiha today, where significant milestones in early childhood education and environmental conservation were celebrated. The event, which included the handover of key for a newly built classroom extension, the distribution of goodie bags to students, and a fish release program at Sungai Karangan, emphasized our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

As part of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, XSD’s initiatives focus on long-term positive impacts in the areas of education and sustainability. These actions demonstrate our dedication to fostering responsible business practices and supporting the communities we serve.

Supporting Early Education: Building a Future for Our Children

The highlight of the event was the official handover of keys for the newly built classroom extension at Tabika KEMAS Kampung Padang Meiha. This new classroom, attached to the existing one, was funded by XSD through a donation of RM15,000, which was used for the construction of the extension and the acquisition of study tools.

In addition to the classroom renovation, XSD distributed goodie bags to students at the Tabika. These goodie bags, which included backpacks, stationery, and lunch boxes, were designed to support the students' educational needs and enhance their learning experience. Furthermore, gift vouchers were given to 6-year-old students who will be entering primary school in 2025. These vouchers are intended to support the purchase of school uniforms, easing the financial burden on parents and ensuring the children are ready for their next educational milestone.

These contributions align with SDG 4: Quality Education, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all, and are an example of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at improving access to education in underserved communities.

Protecting the Environment: Enhancing Local Ecosystems

As part of our environmental efforts, XSD also hosted a fish release program at Sungai Karangan, where 10,000 Baung fish and 2,500 Lampam fish, both native species of the river, were released into the water. These species play a crucial role in maintaining the local aquatic ecosystem and supporting the livelihoods of inland fishermen.

The fish release initiative not only contributes to the conservation of the local environment but also aligns with SDG 14: Life Below Water, promoting the preservation of aquatic ecosystems while emphasizing the interconnectedness of natural resources and community well-being. The introduction of native species also reinforces the importance of safeguarding biodiversity to ensure a sustainable future for local communities. The program also directly supports SDG 1: No Poverty, by enhancing the resources available to local fishing communities and contributing to their economic well-being.

Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Development

The event was a testament to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, bringing together key stakeholders from the private sector, government, and local communities. We were honored by the presence of Yang Berhormat Dato' Ustazah Hajjah Siti Ashah binti Haji Ghazali, State Assembly Member for Merbau Pulas; Mr. Sukri bin Deris, Director of the Kedah State Fisheries Department; Ms. Norhayati Binti Abu Samah, KEMAS Officer of Kulim District; Ms. Nurul Izzah binti Halim, Fisheries Officer of Kulim District; Mr. Arshad Bin Alin, Village Head of Kampung Padang Meiha; Mr. Zaidi Bin Ishak, Director of Tabika KEMAS Kampung Padang Meiha; Ms. Fadillah Binti Osman, Director of Tabika KEMAS Taman Desa Aman; alongside representatives from the Department of Environment, KEMAS, the Village Committee, and the community.

This collaboration underscores the strength of collective effort in achieving meaningful progress toward shared goals. The partnership between XSD, local government, and the community exemplifies our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, ensuring that our initiatives create lasting positive impacts for both people and the planet.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Speaking at the event, a representative from XSD shared, “At XSD, we are committed to investing in the future of our children and the sustainability of our environment. Our initiatives today are small but meaningful steps toward creating a brighter, more sustainable future for the next generation.”

Making a Lasting Impact

Today’s event is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the positive impact that can be achieved when we come together to support education, the environment, and local livelihoods. At XSD, we remain committed to supporting these initiatives as part of our ongoing efforts to contribute to the sustainable development of our communities, in line with our CSR and ESG values.

As we move forward, XSD will continue to explore new opportunities to drive positive change and foster sustainable development through impactful partnerships and responsible business practices.
